چکیده
This paper covers the topic of randomized controlled trials in social, educational, criminological, health, and other human service sectors. It is studded with illustrations from developed and developing countries. We address the basic ideas that underlie trials in different ways, and cover contemporary definitions and vernacular, some history, and idea of cumulating evidence from such trials including recent work on replication and meta-analyses. Standards for evidence and reporting are considered. We attend to statistical matters and also recognize important non-statistical matters that must be taken into account in designing and executing such trials. Cluster randomized, place randomized, and other designs for such trials are covered on account of their increasing importance. One of the interventions may be a control condition that receives no special treatment, and which is then construed as the counterfactual. The aim of a randomized controlled trial is to identify causal relationships through (a) a fair comparison of the different interventions in estimating their effects and (b) a legitimate statistical statement of

Important considerations in calculating and reporting of sample size in randomized controlled trials
Background: The calculation of the sample size is one of the most important steps in designing a randomized controlled trial. The purpose of this study is drawing the attention of researchers to the importance of calculating and reporting the sample size in randomized controlled trials. Methods: We reviewed related literature and guidelines and discussed some important issues in s...

متن کاملA Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials Comparing the Safety of Dapagliflozin in Type 1 Diabetes Patients
Background and Purpose: The dapagliflozin’s safety profile in insulin-treated adult type-1 diabetes mellites (T1DM) patients remains poorly explored. Therefore, this systematic review and meta-analysis compared the risk of all-cause side effects, study discontinuation of participants due to side effects, urinary tract infection (UTI), diabetic ketoacidosis, and hypoglycemia between dapagliflozi...
متن کاملEvaluation of the Quality of Writing of the Title and Abstract of Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial Papers Published in the Journals of the Iran,s Universities of Medical Sciences in 2016, Based on the CONSORT Checklist: A Descriptive Study
Background and Objectives: Given the fact that randomized controlled clinical trials are more valid than other research methods to determine the therapeutic effects of treatment, proper design and accurate reporting is of particular importance. This study was conducted with the aim of evaluating the quality of writing the title and abstract of randomized clinical trials of Iranian medical unive...

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) are the gold standard for providing evidence in clinical research. The present study was performed with the objective to assess the quality of reports of RCTs in orthodontics in PubMed-indexed journals published by Iranian authors from 2007 to 2017.METHODS: All the articles on orthodontics published from 2007 to 2017 and indexed in PubMed ...
متن کاملAdherence to the CONSORT Statement in the Reporting of Randomized Controlled Trials on Pharmacological Interventions Published in Iranian Medical Journals
Background: Among manuscripts submitted to biomedical journals, randomized controlled trials (RCTs) form the backbone of evidence-based medicine. Hence, their protocol should be designed rigorously and their results should be reported clearly. To improve the quality of RCT reporting, researchers developed the CONSORT Statement in 1996 and updated it in 2010. This study was designed to assess th...
